$340 OverviewBackpack through a beautiful redwood forest ravine in Big Sur. We supply experienced guides, delicious meals, the best equipment available, and a great time on an overnight backpacking trip. The Big Sur Backpacking Expedition is great for all skill levels, and although it's a relatively short trek, moderate physical exertion is required. The course is 5 miles round trip, and is suited to most healthy adults.
The TrailsYou will travel through shaded redwood ravines, with short sections in the coastal hills. The trails are mostly flat, but there is some up and down hill, as well as occasional stream or fallen tree crossing. Your pack weight will range between 15-35lbs. Trail length is only 2.5 miles pr day, moving slowly to enjoy the surroundings. Some exertion is required in areas even though the distance is short. Your guide will provide relevant information on the trail, such as identifying common plants, animal sign, and other points of interest. We will stop often to rest, snack, and cover training and class activities.
TrainingWe will train you on the trip with instruction and hands on experience to become a better backpacker at any level. Get hands on with our equipment like water filters, camp stoves, GPS and more. Learn trip planning, safety & emergency protocol, wilderness skills.
OutfittingWe supply lightweight, modern, top of the line personal and group equipment. If you pack light, your load should be between 15-25lbs. You will be issued: a Kifaru Backpack- hand made packs with the best suspension available, Big Agnes Air Pad for sleeping, headlamp, and a titanium spork and bowl, and mug. Group Equipment: We will supply a Kifaru Tipi for the group, stoves, and water filters to resupply water from the creek. The two Tipi's can each sleep 12 people as a group shelter. They are a floor-less design for weather shelter and utilitarian use. We also provide tent rental options listed below.
Meals We now provide Good to Go Gourmet meals for dinner. Breakfast is simple and trail expedient, such as oatmeal or granola, coffee and tea. Bring your favorite trail snacks.RentalsSleeping Bag Rental $20BAE can provide a Big Agnes Encampment sleeping bag for $20. They are rated to 15 degrees, and contain an air mattress inside to prevent you from twisting up in your bag or rolling off of your sleeping pad, and have a pillow case built in that you can fill with your clothing. TransportationWe have suspended our transportation service for 2014, but will resume for the 2015 Spring season.
Private GroupsWe can accommodate private groups of up to 20 people. Average group pricing of 8 or more is $175 pr person, but contact us for exact pricing and availability for your team.

Cancellation Policy: Bay Area Expeditions reserves the right to cancel trips on short to no notice due to adverse weather conditions. Because we are a small business and there is high demand for our services, and our costs are very high, we must enforce a strict cancellation and no-show policy. For cancellations occurring 14 days or more there is no cancellation fee, and you will be able to reschedule or receive a refund. Cancellations made within 14 days of scheduled arrival are subject to no refund or a rescheduling fee of $75.
